Lot 3 of the Caransebes-Timisoara-Arad Railway Line, covering the section from East Timisoara to Ronat, is a project that will help transform and speed up rail connections and sustainable mobility in Western Romania, particularly for the city of Timisoara. The section is part of one of Romania's most important railway lines and will enhance the 4th Trans-European Rhine-Danube Corridor of the TEN-T transport network, a project that aims to increase sustainable mobility and interconnection for goods and people within the European Union.  

Commissioned by CFR and implemented by a consortium of companies led by Webuild, the project involves upgrading an existing railway line and doubling the track in single-track sections, for a total length of about 14km. The section runs in the urban area between Timisoara East and Timisoara North, on the edge of the city's historic district, and then reaches the Ronat Triaj junction. 

The new line is designed to provide a maximum speed of 160 km/hr for passenger trains and 120 km/hr for freight trains. The main works include the modernization and expansion of 4 existing stations (Timisoara East, Timiosara North, Ronat, Ronat Triaj) and the construction of several stops, a building for train maintenance, a multi-storey parking lot, 4 road overpasses with a total length of about 1.3 kilometers, and the modernization of five railway bridges with a total length of 117 meters. The project also includes railroad electrification and signaling work.  

The complexity of the works to be carried out is increased by the need to carry out the work without interrupting the existing line and by the presence of archaeological finds, even dating back to the Neolithic period. 

The project is intended to improve mobility and connectivity in the region, paving the way for future economic development opportunities that will benefit the local population and freight traffic in the European corridor. When completed, the new section will also help ensure a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and make the road system in the area covered by the route safer by decommissioning old level crossings.
