Caransebes-Timisoara-Arad railway line, Lot 4 Ronat-Arad Nou
Lot 3 of the Caransebes-Timisoara-Arad Railway Line, covering the section from East Timisoara to Ronat, is a project that will help transform and speed up rail connections and sustainable mobility in Western Romania, particularly for the city of Timisoara. The section is part of one of Romania's most important railway lines and will enhance the 4th Trans-European Rhine-Danube Corridor of the TEN-T transport network, a project that aims to increase sustainable mobility and interconnection for goods and people within the European Union.
Lot 4 of the Caransebes-Timisoara-Arad Railway Line, covering the section from Ronat to Arad Nou, is a project intended to transform sustainable mobility in western Romania. The goal of the project is to transform an existing single-track line into a modern railway artery by doubling it and increasing the transit speed for both passenger and freight trains. The section is part of one of Romania's most important railway lines and will enhance the Rhine-Danube Corridor of the TEN-T transport network, which aims to increase sustainable mobility and interconnection for goods and people within the European Union.
The modernization of the route will help improve the comfort and safety of rail traffic on the Bucharest-Timisoara route, making rail transport more competitive with road transport and ensuring development. Once completed, it is also expected to significantly reduce travel times for passengers and freight, which will help reduce CO2 emissions.
The project complexity is increased by the need to carry out the work under the project without disrupting traffic on the existing line, which is currently in operation.
Commissioned by CFR and implemented by a consortium of companies led by Webuild, the project involves modernizing and doubling 48 kilometers of the existing line. The layout includes a 630-meter-long steel railroad bridge over the Mures River with nine 50-meter-long spans and a 180-meter-long arched span. The project also includes the construction of 4 mixed-structure (steel and concrete) railway bridges with a maximum length of 21 meters, 4 railway overpasses and the modernization of 6 existing railway stations.
