Lot 3 represents the most complex section of the future Sibiu-Pitesti Highway, as it will cross the Carpathians, between Cornetu and Tigveni, along a 37.4-km-long route. The work will also relieve traffic congestion on the section between the localities of Cornetu and Tigveni, providing a more suitable alternative to national roads, reducing traffic congestion and making vehicle transit safer in general.

Commissioned by CNAIR, on behalf of the Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the work is part of the larger Sibiu-Pitesti Motorway project, for which Webuild is also building Lot 5 just 10km away from the Lot 3 areas. 

Once the five sections under construction to date are completed, the Sibiu-Pitesti will have a total length of more than 122km and will help connect central and western Romania to the European highway network as part of the Rhine-Danube Corridor of the TEN-T Trans-European Transport Network.  

The work, to be carried out by a consortium of companies led by Webuild, includes the construction of 48 bridges and viaducts totaling 12.5km, consolidation works on 25km of highway, and the construction of two road interchanges, at Valeni and Cornetu, and a maintenance and coordination center. 

The project also includes the construction of the 1.7km-long, twin-tube Poiana tunnel, which will be the longest highway tunnel in Romania. An ecoduct, intended for local wildlife, is also planned to cross the Olt River.
