Section 5 of the Sibiu-Pitesti Highway encompasses the section of the new A1 from Curtea de Argeș to Pitesti in central Romania. The route passes through Băiculesti, Merisani, Budeasa and Bascov, offering a great opportunity for economic development for the territories crossed. 

The Sibiu-Pitesti Highway currently represents the largest investment in Romania in the roads and highways sector. This highway will be the first to cross the Carpathian Mountains and will help transform the country's highway network, with the goal of reducing the volume of traffic between the two cities of Sibiu and Pitesti on DN7, currently the most important link in the region, where much of the traffic congestion is caused by the transit of trucks and heavy trucks. The result will be safer traffic flows for vehicles and benefits in terms of reduced CO2 emissions as well. 

The Sibiu-Pitesti Highway is divided into 5 Sections, of which Section 5 represents the last one in Pitesti direction (from Km 92+600 to Km 122+950). The project is part of the European Corridors of the TEN-T Network and will offer a unique connection from the Black Sea to northern Europe. Lot 5 alone provides for interconnection with DN7C and the existing Bucharest-Pitesti A1 Highway, which will provide a continuous connection to the capital Bucharest.  

The project for Section 5 involves the design and construction of just over 30 kilometers of highway with four lanes, two each direction of travel, and with an emergency lane. It is planned to use 500,000 cubic meters of concrete, 37,000 tons of concrete steel and 20,000 tons of steelwork for its construction.  

The route includes 21 bridges and 6 kilometers of viaducts crossing the Argeș River, and related works such as 3 highway interchanges (Curtea de Argeș, Băiculesti, Bascov), and two maintenance and traffic control centers (Curtea de Arges and Bascov). The contract also includes landscaping of side and local roads, lighting and traffic monitoring systems.
